Bloomsburg University Baseball and Softball Players Ranked Nationally

BLOOMSBURG-Several Bloomsburg University baseball and softball players are statistically ranked among the nations best in Division II.

The Huskies baseball team is ranked 17th in team batting average, collectively hitting .343. Brian Martin (Macungie/Emmaus) is 42nd in Division II in batting average, hitting .433. He also is tied for 26th in doubles per game, with .430 (13 in 30 games) and tied for 11th in triples per game with .170 (5 in 30 games). Jason Helcoski (Jessup/Valley View) is tied for ninth in homeruns per game with .333 (10 in 30 games). Reliever Mike Vavra (Hatfield/North Penn) is currently tied for fifth in saves with seven.

The Huskies' softball team is ranked fifth in winning percentage with a mark of .875 (21-3). They are also ranked 28th in batting average, collectively hitting .320 and are ranked 19th in scoring, with 5.75 runs per game. In addition the Huskies' pitching staff is ranked 21st in team ERA at 1.24.

Starting pitcher Kerri Cooper (Markham, Ont./Markham District) is ranked 19th in ERA with 0.72 and 24th in strikeouts per seven innings with 7.4. Relief pitcher Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) is tied for fifth in saves with two. Laurel Koster (Whitney Point, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) is 27th in homeruns per game with .220 (4 in 18 games).

The Huskies' baseball team in action again on Saturday, April 20 at Millersville and the softball team will be playing again on April 17, at Shippensburg.
