Bloomsburg Falls to Kutztown in Baseball

KUTZTOWN —The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Kutztown on Friday losing by scores of 6-1 and 11-4.

In game one, Bloomsburg fell behind 4-0 after five innings before getting on the board with a single run in the sixth. Pinch hitter Brian Tugend (Taylor/Riverside) drew a walk, then advanced to second on a pinch single by Dan Adamo (Wyane, NJ/Wayne Valley). Sophomore Ryan Wyland (Williamsport/Loyalsock Twp) then doubled home Tugend with the Huskies' run. Bloomsburg later loaded the bases in the inning with two outs, but Kutztown's Matt Maradeo got a fly out to end the inning.

Wyland went 2-3 in the opener to lead Bloomsburg.

In game two, the Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI double by Joe Pesci (Levittown/Pennsbury) which scored Wyland who lead off the game with a single. Bloomsburg made it 2-0 in the third manufacturing a run. Pesci got a one-out single, moved to second on a wild-pitch, took third on a ground ball, and scored on an error by Kutztown on a ball hit by Chris Husted (West Decatur/Philipsburg-Osceola).

Kutztown struck for five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 5-2 lead. However, the Huskies added single runs in the fourth on a sac fly by Vinny James (Philadelphia/Bristol) and an RBI ground out by Adamo in the sixth.

The Golden Bears, though, scored six times in the bottom of the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Pesci went 3-4 in the game, while Larry Piccini (Jessup/Valley View) was 2-2 and Wyland 2-3.

Bloomsburg, 6-18, 0-6 in the PSAC East, will host Kutztown on Saturday in a twinbill starting at 1 p.m.
