Baseball Holds its First Annual Husky Diamond Challenge

BLOOMSBURG - The Bloomsburg University baseball team will hold its first annual Husky Diamond Challenge starting Friday, Dec. 2. The competition will continue for five days and will require the team to push themselves physically during the events.

The Huskies will be split up into three teams: Maroon, Gold and White. They will compete against each other in various events including relay races carrying logs, flipping tractor tires and running the Redman Stadium stairs. Competition will also include swinging sledgehammers on tree stumps, push-ups and sit-ups.

"This competition signifies the culmination of our twelve-week strength and conditioning program using traditional weights and running," said first-year head coach Mike Collins. "This is a fun way for our guys to compete with each other and test their abilities while getting a great workout. It's also a great team-building exercise."

The Diamond Challenge will be followed up by a week off for final exams and the team will then start their final strength and conditioning program over winter break leading up to the beginning of spring practice in January.

The Huskies will open their season at the Apprentice School Tournament in Newport News, VA on Feb. 23.
