Baseball Splits with Shepherd University

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University baseball team swept a doubleheader with Shepherd University on Tuesday. The Huskies won game one 10-7, then took game two 11-5

In game one, Shepherd got on the board with a run in the top half of the first inning. The lead was short lived, as Bloomsburg went on to score seven runs in the bottom half of the inning. Matt Allen (DuBoistown/South Williamsport) recorded an RBI double, while David Miller (Penn Argyl/Penn Argyl), Zach Silver (Catawissa/Southern Columbia), Nick Lerch (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove), Tony Donofry (Council Rock North/Newtown) and Donaven Rodriguez (Manheim/Manheim Central) all recorded RBI singles. Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Monsignor Bonner) hit a double and scored a run, while Donofry, Allen, Miller, Silver, Lerch and Andy Bucher (Littlestown/Littlestown) all scored for the Huskies.

In the second inning, Bloomsburg increased their lead to 9-1 after Miller singled in Ward and Allen scored on a Shepherd error. The Huskies would add their tenth and final run in the fifth inning after Ward knocked in Lerch on an RBI single.

Miller was 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored to lead the Huskies. Lerch also went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Ward was 2-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.

In game two, Bloomsburg jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back. Paul Eckley (Port Matilda/State College) led the Huskies going 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Bucher was 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, Rich Letts (Parkesburg/Octoara) went 2-4 with three runs scored and Lerch went 2-3 with an RBI. Rodriguez also had three RBI in the Huskies victory.

On the mound, Chris Tressler (Lewistown/Lewistown) went five innings to record his first victory of the season. Tressler gave up seven hits, four runs- two of which were earned- and struck out two in the win.

With the sweep, the Huskies move to 15-26 overall on the year. Bloomsburg is back in action on Friday when they visit Millersville for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
