BLOOMSBURG--Bloomsburg University assistant baseball coach Justin Wenger was selected to play for Team North in the 2007 United Baseball League All-Star game that was held July 11th in Amarillo, Texas. The United Baseball League is an independent professional baseball league with teams in Texas and Louisiana. The league plays a 100-game schedule from May to August.
Wenger, a catcher for the Amarillo Dillas, is third on the team in hitting with a mark of .312 with two homers and 21 RBI. In the all-star game Wenger went 0-2 in Team North's 10-1 win over Team Rio Grande.
In May, Wenger completed his first season as assistant coach for the Huskies. Prior to coming to Bloomsburg, Wenger was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Division I Delaware State University. While a student-athlete, Wenger distinguished himself as a two-time all-conference selection and was ranked in the top 10 in the nation "toughest to strike-out" two years in a row. In his senior year he hit .370 with only 8 strikeouts in 165 at-bats while throwing out 35% of base stealers.
Wenger started his collegiate career at Hagerstown Community College. While in Junior College he was all conference, all-region, all-east, top 25 in the country in batting and led Hagerstown to a Region XX championship.
A Harrisburg native, Wenger is a graduate of Central Dauphin High School.
