Huskies Drop Double Header to Erskine

DUE WEST, SC-Bloomsburg University dropped a pair of games to Erskine College on Saturday, 4-2 and 9-1 in non-conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon in Due West, South Carolina.

After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, senior Grant Kernaghan (Upper Darby/Upper Darby) kept Erskine scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Fleet managed three runs to take the lead. Erskine scored another run in its half of the fifth inning and kept Bloomsburg off the board for the rest of the game to take the two-run victory. Kernaghan went all six innings, striking out eight and giving up five hits. Junior Joey Ianiero (Bloomsburg/Rutgers) knocked in both runs for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg (3-8) wasn't able to get anything going in game two, as the Fleet scored in each of the first four innings, jumping out to an 8-0 lead. The Huskies got on the board in their half of the fifth on an RBI hit from Ianiero, but Erskine went on to close out Bloomsburg the rest of the way. Sophomore Vinny Voorhees (Lakaska/New Hope Solebury) went six innings on the mound, giving up 10 hits and striking out seven.

The Huskies return to the diamond tomorrow when they square off in another double header against Clarion. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
