Huskies Split Pair on Saturday

HICKORY,NC-The Bloomsburg University baseball team split a pair of games on Sunday in Hickory, NC beating Seton Hill, 10-5, and losing to Lenoir-Rhyne,16-9.

In game one the Huskies trailed 2-0 going to the top of the third, when they tied the score on an RBI single from Joey Ianiero (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) and a sacrifice fly from Chris Tressler (Lewistown/Lewistown). The Bears though scored seven times in the bottom of the third and once in the bottom of the fourth to lead 10-2. The Huskies got two back in the top of the fifth on Tressler's RBI single and an RBI ground out from Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North).

Lenoir-Rhyne added three runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the sixth to go on top by a score of 14-4 before the Huskies staged one more rally. In the top of the eighth Bloomsburg scored five times on four hits. Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) plated one run on a double, while Corey Eisenhart (York/Dover) drove in two with a double. Ryan Nanni (Norristown/Delaware) drove in the fourth run with a ground out with Ianiero getting an RBI on a sacrifice fly making in a 14-9 game. The Bears closed out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, although the Huskies did not go quietly in the ninth. Bloomsburg put runners on second and third with two out, but could not score.

Grant Kernaghan (Upper Darby/Upper Darby) suffered the loss for the Huskies going the first three and a third innings and striking out four. Ianiero, Tressler and Eisenhart all drove in two runs each with Tressler and Eisenhart each getting two hits.

In game two, the Huskies fell behind 4-0 through two innings before getting on the board in the third inning. After loading the bases with one out, Jerry Lloyd (Mifflinburg/Mifflinburg) delivered a three-run double to bring the Huskies to within 4-3. Bloomsburg went in front 5-4 in the fourth with Ianiero getting home one run on while reaching on an error with the second run coming in on the same miscue.

Bloomsburg stretched its lead to 6-4 in the fifth. Gino Wise (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) doubled with one out and scored on a single by Eric Ebert (Holland/Council Rock South). In the seventh the Huskies made it an 8-4 game when Seth Pauling (Allenwood/Montgomery) drove in a pair of runs with a one-out double. After Seton Hill got a run back in the bottom of the seventh, the Huskies made it a 10-5 game in the eighth. Tressler doubled and scored when Donofry reached on an error for one run. Then Donofry scored the tenth run when Wise hit a sacrifice fly.

Ianiero and Tressler both finished with three hits in the game, while Lloyd drove in three runs for the Huskies.

Vinny Voorheese (Lakaska/New Hope Solebury) pitched the first six innings for the Huskies and got the win. He struck out eight and walked two before giving way to Joe Crossin (Fairless Hills/Pennsbury) who pitched the final three innings to earn the save.

Bloomsburg, 3-4, will face the same two teams on Sunday.
