Huskies Fall to Erskine as Both Teams Combine for 48 Runs
DUE WEST, SC-Three Huskies drove in three runs apiece and eight had at least one RBI but it wasn't enough as Bloomsburg University fell to Erskine College 30-18 in non-conference baseball action in Due West, South Carolina on Monday.
Bloomsburg (4-10) scored in each of the first five innings, and held a 7-2 lead after their half of the third inning before Erskine put up seven in the bottom of the frame to take a two-run lead. The Huskies scored twice more in the fourth and once in the fifth, but the Flying Fleet took control of the game, scoring 11 times over the next three innings to take a 20-10 lead heading into the seventh.
The Huskies would score eight more times over the final three innings but Erskine held on to close out the game, putting 10 more runs on the board.
Both teams also combined for 48 hits, as eight different Huskies had at least two. Junior Gino Wise (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) went 3-for-6 with a double, three RBI, a stolen base and three runs scored, freshman Eric Ebert (Holland/Council Rock South) went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored and junior Seth Pauling (Allenwood/Montgomery) went 2-for-2, walking twice, and had three RBI and scored three runs.
The Huskies travel to Lander University tomorrow to take on the Bearcats. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
