John Stutzman begins his third season as head coach of the Bloomsburg University wrestling team.
In his first two years as head coach Stutzman has guided the Huskies to a mark of 23-18; sent 11 wrestlers to the NCAA championships and in 2007, coached the school's first All-American in 13 years in Mike Spaid.
Prior to becoming the Huskies' head coach in 2005, Stutzman spent five years as the recruiting coordinator at both Northern Illinois and Bloomsburg. Stutzman has been able to bring in four nationally-ranked recruiting classes with the 2003 Bloomsburg recruiting class ranked as high as 14th, nationally, by Intermat.
As an assistant coach he has had the opportunity to coach over 22 NCAA Division I national qualifiers, two Division I All-Americans, and one Olympic Trials participant. He has also coached for the New York Athletic Club at the 2004 US Olympic Freestyle Trials.
During the 2004-05 season, he helped coach six Bloomsburg NCAA qualifiers and helped lead the team to a 10-win season. The Huskies won their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship since 1990, recording the school's 14th title in school history. Bloomsburg had two PSAC Championships in 2005, and also three EWL title-winners. That season, Stutzman also helped the Huskies to their first win over Edinboro since 1993.
At Northern Illinois from 2000-2002, Stutzman coached All-American Scott Owen as well as helping lead the squad to a second-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships.
From 1998-2000, Stutzman served as the assistant coach at Buffalo helping coach the school's first Mid-American Conference champion. Buffalo qualified six wrestlers to the NCAA Championships in those three seasons and compiled a 19-10-2 record.
A 1998 graduate of the University of Buffalo, Stutzman was 95-27 in a three-year career for the Bulls and left as the school's all-time leader in career wins. His best year for the Bulls was the 1996-97 season when he posted a mark of 35-4. He was a three-time East Coast Wrestling Association place winner and a two-time alternate for the Division I championships.
During his junior and senior seasons, he was named captain and also earned team MVP honors for two seasons.
Stutzman was a Region Three Champion and was named Most Outstanding Wrestler while competing for Niagara County Community College.
