Bloomsburg Downs Lock Haven in Women's Soccer

BLOOMSBURG — The Bloomsburg University women's soccer team defeated Lock haven University, 2-1, in a Wednesday afternoon PSAC game.

Becky Ritter (Phillipsburg/Phillipsburg-Osceola) got the Huskies on the board first with just over 16 minutes to play in the half off an assist from teammate Ashley Brucker (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren). Brucker pushed the ball through the defenders to Ritter who went in on net and beat Lock Haven goalie Emily Wagner with a low shot to the corner. Nearly four minutes later, the Bald Eagles retaliated with a goal by Colleen Kafka, who beat Bloomsburg goalie Robin Gerber (Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) with a low shot to the far corner to tie the game at one, going into the half.

In the second half, sophomore Brittany McKew (Baltimore Md./Perry Hall) scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 69th minute to give the Huskies their fourth win of the season. McKews' shot to the corner was just out of the reach of Wagner.

The Huskies out shot Lock Haven 14-10 in a physical game that featured 27 combined fouls between the two teams.

Robin Gerber made eight saves in goal for the Huskies.

With the win, Bloomsburg's record improves to 4-2-2 overall. The Huskies return to action on Saturday where they will visit Shippensburg for a 7:30 p.m. start.
