McKew's Overtime Goal Lifts Bloomsburg Past Shippensburg

October 26, 2005

BLOOMSBURG — Brittany's McKew's (Baltimore, MD/ Perry Hall) overtime goal in the 93rd minute broke a 1-1 tie to give Bloomsburg a 2-1 victory over Shippensburg on Wednesday afternoon.

Three minutes into overtime, McKew took the ball on a breakaway and scored the game winning goal for Bloomsburg.

In the first half, the Huskies defense stifled Shippensburg, not allowing a shot the entire half. Bloomsburg had several scoring opportunities in the first half and were able to go ahead when Sarah Fick (Hamburg/ Fleetwood Area) scored off a header to put the Huskies up 1-0.

However, in the second half, the Raiders got their offense going and tied the score at one at the 71:41 mark when sophomore Mallory Skipp put a shot in the top corner to tie the score at one.

Bloomsburg goalie Robin Gerber (Succasunna, NJ) stopped three shots and Shippensburg goalie Meredith Yakscoe-Markle had seven saves.

The Huskies will travel to West Chester for their final regular season game on Saturday a 2:30 p.m.
