Bloomsburg Places Ten Football Players on All-Star Team

BLOOMSBURG—Ten Bloomsburg University football players capped off their dream season by being named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II South All-Star team. The all-stars were elected by the coaches in the region.

The Huskies finished the season with a record of 12-3 and are champions of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division and NCAA Northeast Region, as well as being NCAA Division II National Finalists.

Named to the First Team Offense were running back Marques Glaze (Robesonia/Conrad Weiser) and wide receiver Mike Lelko (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg), as well as tight end Brian Sullivan (Media/Penncrest) and linemen Sean Flueso (Coplay/Parkland), Manny Henrie (Berwick/Berwick), Matt Russel (Chesapeake, VA/Great Bridge) and Jeff Smith (Pitman, NJ/Pitman).

Glaze, a junior, rushed for 1,867 yards on 290 attempts for an average of 6.4 yards per carry. He compiled 17 rushing touchdowns in 15 games played and averaged 124.5 yards per game. His longest run of the year was a team-best 71 yards. Glaze also caught 17 passes for 164 yards and returned three kicks for 52 yards, giving him a team-high 2,083 all-purpose yards.

Lelko, a senior, led the team with 94 catches for 1,375 yards. He also scored a team-high 21 touchdowns. He averaged 14.6 yards per reception and 91.7 yards per game. His longest reception of the season was a team-best 77 yards.

Sullivan, a senior, was a strong run-blocker, as well as making key receptions for the Huskies. In 14 games, he caught 15 passes for 198 yards and one touchdown. He averaged 13.2 yards per catch and led all Huskies' tight ends with an average of 14.1 receiving yards per game.

Seniors Flueso, Henrie, Russel and Smith led an experienced squad all season long. The line helped Bloomsburg gain 3,410 rushing yards on the season, an average of 5.1 yards per carry and 227.3 rushing yards per game. The running game also compiled 35 touchdowns on the year. The four offensive linemen also provided ample time for quarterback Eric Miller, who passed for 3,458 yards and 40 touchdowns. The passing game averaged 230.5 yards per game, helping the Huskies to a strong 457.9 yards of offense per contest.

Named to the First Team Defense was lineman Brian Sims (Downingtown/Downingtown) along with linebacker Jeremiah Dyer (Berwick/Berwick) and defensive back Toyae Berry (Easton/Easton).

Sims, a senior, played in all 15 games and made 47 tackles, 25 unassisted. Nine of Sims' 47 tackles were for a loss of yardage, which totaled 32 yards on the year. Sims also recorded a team-high nine sacks and recovered one fumble on the season.

Dyer, a junior, led the Huskies with 132 tackles, 71 of them solo. He made four tackles for a loss of yardage and recorded one sack. Dyer made one interception with a four-yard return and broke up four passes on the year. He also forced one fumble on the season.

Berry, a junior, tied for the team lead in interceptions with five. He led the team with 76 return yards after interceptions and scored a touchdown on an interception return. Berry had 49 tackles, 32 unassisted, and made two tackles for a loss of yardage. He also broke up four passes on the year. Berry chipped in on offense and special teams as well. He returned 34 punts for 269 yards, an average of 7.9 yards per return, and rushed once for 13 yards. Berry also completed a pass on a trick play that went for 50 yards en route to totaling 358 all-purpose yards on the year.
