BLOOMSBURG—Quarterback Eric Miller (Clarks Summit/Abington Heights) threw for 253 yards and three touchdowns leading Bloomsburg University (5-2, 3-0 PSAC East) to a 28-0 win over East Stroudsburg University (4-3, 1-3 PSAC) Saturday afternoon. The win was the fifth straight for the Huskies, who started the year 0-2.
The Huskies, ranked 24th in the country in Division II, scored with 3:40 to go in the first half when Miller connected with Mike Lelko (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) on a 41-yard scoring pass. The play capped a two-play, 43 yard scoring drive set up by a short East Stroudsburg punt from deep in its own territory.
The Huskies made it 14-0 in the second when Miller connected with Tierell Johnson (Harrisburg/C.D. East) on a 36-yard scoring pass capping a four-play, 55 yard drive with 2:50 left before the break.
In the third period, the Miller to Lelko connection hooked up for the second time, this one for 77 yards capping a three-play, 92 yard scoring drive.
The Huskies put the game out of reach when Arrastene Henry (Philadelphia/Geo. Washington) scored from one-yard out with 9:17 left in the game. Henry was seeing his first action since Sept. 23 when he was injured on the first play of the game against Cheyney.
The Bloomsburg defense was dominant limiting the Warriors to 183 yards in total offense, 79 on the ground. The Warriors deepest penetration into Bloomsburg territory was the 35-ard line on two occasions, while they converted just four of 19 third down conversion attempts.
Miller finished the day 14 of 18 with no interceptions. His three touchdowns give him 62 for his career, ninth best all-time in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. With two touchdown receptions, Lelko now has 29 for his career, tying him with Buck Eardley for the Huskies' all-time lead in that category.
Tailback Marques Glaze (Robesonia/Conrad Weiser) gained 111 yards on the ground for Bloomsburg, while Jeremiah Dyer (Berwick/Berwick) had a team-high 10 tackles. Rich Butcofski (Shavertown/Dallas) led the Warriors with 12 tackles.
Bloomsburg will visit Mansfield next Saturday, while the Warriors host Shippensburg at 1 p.m.
