MANSFIELD—Tailback Marques Glaze (Robesonia/Conrad Weiser) rushed for 126 yards and three touchdowns to lead Bloomsburg University to a 41-7 win over Mansfield University in PSAC football action Saturday. The win was the sixth straight for the Huskies (6-2, 4-0 PSAC East) after dropping their first two games of the year.
Glaze went over the 1,000-yard mark for the season during the game becoming the first Bloomsburg back since Irv Sigler in 1997 to achieve that mark.
Bloomsburg scored on its first possession of the game when Mike Lelko (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) caught a 10-yard scoring pass from Eric Miller (Clarks Summit/Abington Heights) with 10:26 to play in the first period. The touchdown catch was the 30th of Lelko's career making him the school's all-time leader in touchdown receptions. He breaks the mark of Buck Eardley who played for the Huskies from 1991 to 1995.
The Huskies made it 14-0 early in the second period when Glaze scored his first touchdown on a 13-yard run capping a four-play, 50-yard scoring drive.
Mansfield trimmed the deficit to 14-7 when Angel Baines caught a 10-yard pass from Travis Motley with 7:44 to play in the first half. However, the Huskies would inflict some serious damage to the Mountaineers in the final two minutes of the half, scoring twice.
Lelko caught a 43-yard pass from Miller with 1:52 left to play to give Bloomsburg a 21-7 lead. Mansfield, though, put the game in the air on its ensuing drive with Toyae Berry (Easton/Easton) intercepting the ball and returning it to the Mounties 19-yard line.
After a Miller to Lelko connection gave the Huskies' first and goal at the one-yard line, Glaze scored his second touchdown of the game giving Bloomsburg a 28-7 lead at the break.
Bloomsburg started the second half on offense with Glaze scoring on an 18-yard run with 13:02 left in the third. Glaze was the workhorse on the drive getting the ball of four of the five plays and gaining 66 of the drive's 67 yards.
Tight end Allen Lechthaler (Hershey/Hershey) completed the scoring for the Huskies with a36-yard scoring pass. Lechthaler has caught just two passes this season, both for touchdowns.
Glaze carried 15 times for 126 yards, while Miller was 9 of 17 with interception for 197 yards and three scores. Lelko finished the day with seven catches for 155 yards and two scores.
Defensively the Huskies limited the Mounties to 220 yards of total offense with Jeremiah Dyer (Berwick/Berwick) getting a team-high six tackles.
Bloomsburg will host Millersville Saturday, Oct. 28 in a key game in both the PSAC East and the NCAA Division II Northeast Region.
