Game Play By Play

SHIPPENSBURG—Shippensburg quarterback Chris Gicking threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns leading the Red Radiers to a 24-17 win over Bloomsburg University Saturday afternoon. In the loss, Bloomsburg wide receiver Mike Lelko (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) became the Huskies all-time leader in pass receptions. He broke the old mark of 185 set by Buck Eardley (1992-95).

Shippensburg took its first lead in the game when Gicking completed a 26-yard scoring pass to wide receiver Melvin Scott with 2:25 to play in the first half completing a three-play, 30-yard drive. The short drive was setup by Shippensburg's defense, which forced the Huskies punt from deep in its own territory.

The Huskies tied the game at 10:20 of the second period when Lelko caught one of his 10 receptions for and 11 yard score from Eric Miller (Clarks Summit/Abington Heights) to tie the game at 7-7. The touchdown pass was the third of the season for Lelko, who needs just five more touchdown receptions to become the Huskies' all-time leader in that category.

Bloomsburg took its first lead of the game on the last play of the first half. Chris Thompson (Manheim/Manheim Central) connected on a 27-yard field goal, the first of his career. Bloomsburg started the drive on its own 33 after Shippensburg missed a long field goal try. Marques Glaze (Robesonia/Conrad Weiser) had back to back runs of 13 and seven yards before Arrastene Henry (Philadelphia/Geo. Washington) picked up seven putting the ball on the Shippensburg 47. On a third and 10 play, Miller scrambled for 14 yards to the Red Raider 26- yard line. With just 10 seconds left before halftime Henry took a shuffle-pass from Miller and went to the 10-yard line before Thompson connected on the field goal try.

In the second half, Shippensburg tied the game on a 30-yard field goal by Craig Lough with 8:52 remaining in the third. The Huskies took the lead at 17-10 when Lelko caught a 15-yard pass from Miller completing a six-pl;ay, 33 yard drive.

Shippensburg took the lead for good when Marty Brown caught a 42-yard scoring pass from Gicking to complete a 10-play, 79 yard scoring drive. On the drive Gicking completed two passes, one for 12 yards and the other being the 42-yard scoring pass.

The Huskies' ensuing drive resulted in three-plays and out with the Red Raiders taking over at their own 38-yard line. On the first play of the drive, Gicking completed a 59-yard pass to Brown, which Brown took to the Bloomsburg three-yard line. On a third-goal from the one, Ryan Hartley dove in giving Shippensburg a 24-17 lead.

The Huskies had a golden chance to tie the game in the next series of plays. After Shippensburg forced a punt, the Red Raiders muffed the catch with Bloomsburg recovering on the Shippensburg 17-yard line. However,

the Huskies could get only as far as the 11-yard line before a fourth down pass fell incomplete. On the drive Lelko did catch a three-yard pass whgich put him past Earldey and into first place all-time on the Huskies receiving list.
