Game Box Score

Game Play By Play

INDIANA (PA)—In a battle of two of the top-ranked teams in the NCAA Northeast Region, the Indiana (PA) Indians defeated Bloomsburg University, 23-12. The loss snapped the Huskies regular season winning streak at 13 games. Bloomsburg came into the game ranked second in the Northeast Region, while IUP was third.

The Indians (4-0) got on the board first taking advantage of a Bloomsburg (4-1) turnover. After the Indians intercepted a Chris Thompson (Manheim/Manheim Central) pass at the IUP 17-yard line, Indiana marched 83 yards in 17 plays with Henry Lane scoring from one-yard out on a fourth down play. With the extra point, the Indians led 7-0 with 2:02 left in the first period.

In the second period the Huskies held on defense deep in IUP territory. Kicking into the wind, the punt was downed at the IUP 36-yard line. Six plays later Marques Glaze (Robesonia/Conrad Weiser) scored a one-yard touchdown to make it a 7-6 game after a missed extra point. A big play in the drive was a holding call in the endzone on the play before the score by Glaze. The call gave the Huskies a first and goal at the one.

Bloomsburg took the lead in the third period when Rocco Forgione (Jessup/Valley View) caught a 22-yard scoring pass from Thompson to complete a five-play, 44-yard drive. The two-point conversion attempt failed leaving the Huskies with a 12-7 edge.

Later in the period the Huskies had a chance to increase their lead after moving to the IUP 10-yard line. On a fourth and seven-play, Bloomsburg lined up for a field goal try. But Forgione, the holder, pulled the ball back and tried to complete a pass to Allen Lechthaler (Hersehey/Hershey). However, the pass was incomplete keeping the score at 12-7 and turning the ball over to the Indians.

IUP then marched downfield 90-yards in 13 plays with Eyerman going in from one yard out to cap the drive. The two-point conversion attempt failed, but IUP was still in front at 13-12. A key play on the drive was a third and 10 from the IUP 10-yard on which Eyerman connected with Dew for an 11-yard gain to keep the drive alive.

After the Huskies were forced to punt on their next drive, with the Indians taking over on their own 30-yard line. Moving the ball to the Bloomsburg 24-yard line, IUP settled for a 41-yard field goal from Josh Telenko to put the home team up 16-12 with 7:50 to play.

On the Huskies next possession, Darryl Williams (Philadelphia/Central) fumbled after catching a Thompson pass with the Indians recovering at the Bloomsburg 33-yard line. Four plays later Henry scored his second touchdown of the game to put the game out of reach for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg was by Mike Ceroli (Medford, NJ/Lenape) on the ground, who picked up 65 yards on 15 carries, while Glaze was limited to 51 yards on 18 carries. Thompson was 13-23 for 151 yards with one interception and one touchdown. Forgione caught six passes for 98 yards and one score to lead the receivers. Defensively, Bryant Stone (Norwich, CT/Worcester Acad.) had 10 tackles, six of them solo, while Toyae Berry (Easton/Easton) had seven, three solo.

Bloomsburg will visit East Stroudsburg next Saturday at 1 p.m. in a key PSAC Eastern Division matchup.
