Game Box Score

Game Play By Play

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University Huskies won their eighth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division title and sixth under coach Danny Hale with a 10-7 win over Kutztown Saturday afternoon. The win was also the 15th consecutive PSAC East victory for the Huskies dating back to 1999.

The Huskies (8-1, 6-0 PSAC) took advantage of two early turnovers by the Golden Bears (6-3, 4-2) to score all their points.

On Kutztown's first series of the game the Huskies' Rudy Garcia (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) intercepted the Golden Bears' Rob Flowers and returned the ball to the Golden Bears' 22-yard line. Four plays later Marques Glaze (Robesonia/Conrad Weiser) powered his way in from the one-yard to put the Huskies up 7-0 with 12:03 left in the first period.

On the second series of the game for Kutztown, Garcia again intercepted Flowers, this time returning the ball to the Golden Bears' 20-yard line. After the Huskies drive stalled at the 15-yard line, Tim Oliver (Mountaintop/Crestwood) connected on a career-long 32-yard field goal to put the Huskies up 10-0 with 8:43 left in the first.

The teams remained scoreless the remainder of the first half. The best scoring opportunity for either squad came when the Huskies drove to the Kutztown 12-yard line late in the first period, but missed on a 29-yard field goal try. In all, from the end of the first period to the end of the third period, 12 of the combined 14 possessions ended in punts.

In the fourth period, the Golden Bears reached the end zone after recovering a Glaze fumble at the Bloomsburg 30-yard line. Four plays later Yorel Prosser scored from one-yard out to make the score 10-7 with 8:23 to play in the game.

Bloomsburg was driving for a game-clinching score late in the game, but misfired on a fourth down play giving Kutztown one last chance. But, the Golden Bears gained one yard on a run and then failed on three consecutive pass plays.

Bloomsburg was led by Marques Glaze's 135 yards and one score on 32 carries, while quarterback Chris Thompson was 9-23 for 151 yards and one interception. Defensively, Jeremiah Dyer had 8 tackles, while Garcia added four tackles to go with his two interceptions and two pass breakups.

Kutztown, held to eight first downs and 167 yards of offense, was led by Prosser's 58 yards rushing and Pete Mendez's 10 tackles.
