LOCK HAVEN÷ Arrastene Henry had two rushing touchdowns and quarterback Chris Thompson threw for three touchdowns leading Bloomsburg University (2-0) to a 34-24 win over Lock Haven University (0-3) on Saturday evening. The victory was the ninth straight victory over Lock Haven for the Huskies.
Henry finished with 195 yards on 30 carries. This performance was the 10th 100-yard rushing game of his career. Thompson finished the game 11 for 23 for a total of 196 yards.
Bloomsburg opened the scoring in the first quarter on their second possession of the game when Chris Thompson connected with Tierell Johnson for a 64-yard touchdown pass.
Lock Haven evened the score in the second quarter after a 10 play 50-yard drive. The Bald Eagles got on the board with a touchdown on a quarterback keeper by Bill Witmer.
Lock Haven would strike again after taking over after a missed field goal by Bloomsburg, leading to a Jonathan Miller 47-yard field goal with 52 seconds remaining in the first half.
Bloomsburg would come right back with 60-yard drive for a score with just 47 seconds left in the half. After a 14-yard pass to Johnson, the Huskies had the ball on the Lock Haven 4-yard line with just nine seconds left on the clock. Thompson would then connect to Rocco Forgione in traffic to gain the lead with just two seconds left in the half.
Bloomsburg dominated play in the first half gaining 274 yards, while Lock Haven only gained 125 total yards. Despite this the Huskies went into halftime with just a narrow 14-10 lead.
Bryant Stone opened the second half with a 42-yard kickoff putting Huskies in good field position to start the quarter. Arrastene Henry would then score a two yard rushing touchdown to increase the Husky lead to 21-10, but the Bald Eagles would come right back as Robert Carey returned the kickoff 83 yards for a touchdown.
Each team would trade touchdowns to finish the third quarter. Henry got his second rushing touchdown for Bloomsburg, while Lock Haven answered with a 43-yard touchdown pass from Witmer to John Caldwell.
Bloomsburg's final strike came on a 34-yard pass from Thompson to Johnson with ----- remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Huskies finished the game with 490 total yards while the defense limited the Bald Eagles to just 240 yards.
Johnson finished the game with seven receptions for 156-yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Rudy Garcia and Greg Roskos each had six solo tackles and 3 assisted tackles.
The Huskies will travel to Cheyney next Saturday. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
