BLOOMSBURG—Quarterback Chris Thompson (Manheim/Manheim Central) threw a career-high four touchdown passes, three of them to Tierrell Johnson (Harrisburg/C.D. East), to lead Bloomsburg (6-1, 4-0 PSAC East) to a 41-6 win over Mansfield University (2-5, 1-3 PSAC East) Saturday afternoon.
Thompson finished the day 17-20 (a school-record 85 percent completion mark) for a season-high 247 yards and no interceptions.
In front of over 6,300 fans on homecoming, Thompson got the Huskies going on their first offensive series of the game when he connected with Johnson a 30-yard pass with 10:02 left in the first period. After the Huskies forced Mansfield to punt on its next possession, tailback Marques Glaze (Robesonia/Conrad Weiser) ran 67 yards for a score on a third and one play to give the Huskies a 14-0 lead with 8:03 left in the first.
Mansfield answered Bloomsburg's second score with its only points of the game. On a 15-play, 83-yard drive Travis Motley hit Joe Bennett with an eight yard scoring pass. The extra point failed and the Huskies led 14-6 with 3:02 left in the first.
The Huskies increased its lead on its third possession of the first period when Thompson hit Johnson with a 22-yard toss with 10 seconds remaining to give Bloomsburg a 21-6 lead. In the period, Glaze rushed for 102 yards for Bloomsburg, his second straight game with gaining 100 or more yards in the opening 15 minutes of play.
Glaze stretched the Huskies lead to 27-6 midway through the third period when he scampered 63-yards for a score with 5:48 to play in the first half. Then with 2:01 left to play, Thompson hit Rocco Forgione (Jessup/Valley View) with a seven yard scoring strike to give the home team a 34-6 advantage at halftime.
In the second half, Johnson caught his third touchdown of the day from Thompson with 10:25 left in the third period. Johnson finished with five catches for 109 yards and a career-high three touchdowns, while Glaze totaled 201 yards on 16 carries and two touchdowns.
Motley finished 12-27 for 111 yards and one score for the Mansfield.
As a team, Bloomsburg finished the day with 584 yards of total offense to 200 for the Moutaineers. Greg Roskos (Scranton/West Scranton) and Jeremiah Dyer (Berwick/Berwick) each had seven tackles for the Huskies.
