BLOOMSBURG--Junior linebacker Matt Keys recovered a fumble and returned it 96 yards for a touchdown with 2:24 remaining in the first half to put the Huskies ahead for good as Bloomsburg defeated West Chester, 27-14.
Bloomsburg (4-0, 2-0 PSAC) opened the scoring in the first half when Chris Thompson connected with Allen Lechthaler on a 9-yard scoring pass. Zach Quigley's extra point was good making the score, 7-0.
West Chester (0-3, 0-2 PSAC) struck back on their first play of the ensuing drive when Don DeFilipo rushed for an 83-yard touchdown. Dan Wilbourne's PAT tied the game at 7-7.
At the beginning of the second quarter, the Huskies completed a 5-play, 77-yard drive for a score. Darryl Williams' 47-yard reception set up Marques Glaze's 5-yard touchdown run. Quigley's kick was good putting the Huskies ahead, 14-7.
The Golden Rams again needed only one big play to tie the score. Quarterback George Caroulis hit Brian Bradley with an 80-yard touchdown pass. The PAT tied the score at 14-14.
West Chester was in position to score again at the end of the second quarter. The Golden Rams were threatening from the Bloomsburg 3-yard line when Keys recovered the fumble for a touchdown, putting the Huskies ahead for good.
Bloomsburg got another touchdown on a 3-yard run from Marques Glaze with 4:10 left in the third quarter to seal the 27-14 victory. The Huskies defense held West Chester scoreless in the second half.
Glaze finished the game with 131 yards rushing on 33 carries. Thompson also finished with 131 yards completing 10 of 23 passes. Caroulis finished with 215 yards completing 17 of 23 passes for the Golden Rams.
Matt Keys led the Bloomsburg defense with 12 tackles including two for a loss. Jeremiah Dyer added 10 tackles. Brian Kersey finished with 11 tackles leading the West Chester defense.
