Huskies Ranked 10th in Football Coaches Poll

BLOOMSBURG—The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) released its first poll of the 2002 season and the Bloomsburg University Huskies are ranked 10th in Division II. The Huskies are also ranked 19th in the d2football.com poll released earlier this week.

The AFCA poll, voted on by coaches in Division II, puts the Huskies are number 10 in the pre-season. Bloomsburg finished the 2001 season ranked 12th in the country. In the d2football.com poll, the Huskies are ranked 19th after finishing last year with a record of 9-2.

The top ranked team in both polls is Grand Valley State, the team that defeated the Huskies in the first round of the NCAA playoffs.

Bloomsburg, winners of 21 games the last two seasons, will scrimmage Lycoming College on the road, Saturday, Aug. 31st starting at 1p.m. The Huskies begin the 2002 season for real on Sept. 7th traveling to Indiana (PA) for a 7 p.m. start. All games can be heard locally on WHLM radio (930 AM) and on the internet through Yahoo! broadcast services. Go to www.bloomu.edu/sports and click the link, “Listen to the Huskies.”
