Herrmann Leads Huskies to Win over CheyneyBLOOMSBURG—Quarterback Andrew Herrmann (Brookside, NJ/Mendham) passed for 187 yards and two touchdowns to lead Bloomsburg University to a 37-12 win over Cheyney University Saturday afternoon. Herrmann finished the day 10-18 for 186 yards with one interception, while throwing touchdown passes for 40 yards to Darryl Williams (Philadelphia/Central) and 11 yards to Rocco Forgione (Peckville/Valley View). The Huskies (6-2, 3-1 PSAC) wasted little time in taking the lead scoring on the game's opening possession. Bloomsburg needed just three plays and 59 seconds to go 59-yards with Julius Brown (New Holland/Garden Spot) scoring on a 43-yard run. Later in the first Herrmann hit Williams with a 40-yard strike in the end zone to give the Huskies a13-0 lead after the missed extra point. Bloomsburg made it 20-0 midway through the second period when Herrmann hit Forgione with an 11-yard scoring pass. The touchdown was set up a 49-yard pass from Herrmann to Tierell Johnson (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) on the previous play. The Huskies closed out the first half scoring with a 22-yard field goal from Tim Oliver (Mountaintop/Crestwood). In the second half the Huskies extended the lead to 30-0 on a 12-yard run by Mike Ceroli (Medford, NJ/Lenape). Cheyney (0-8, 0-3 PSAC) scored twice in the four period sandwiched around an 80-yard kickoff return by Nick Kurtz (Coplay/Whitehall) for the Huskies. The Wolves first score came on a seven yard scoring pass from Colin Smith to Trevis Willingham. On the ensuing kickoff, Kurtz took the ball at the 20-yard line and, after breaking several early tackles, ran untouched for an 80-yard kickoff return. It's the third straight season the Huskies have returned a kickoff for a touchdown. Smith closed out the game's scoring with a one-yard scoring plunge, the first rushing touchdown this season for the Wolves. The Huskies totaled 443 yards in offense to 296 for the Wolves. Linebacker Eric Steffen (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) and safety Jason Noble (Milton/Milton) led the Huskies defense with nine and eight tackles, respectively. Steffen finished with five solo hits, while Noble had six solo hits. Bloomsburg will close out its home season next week by hosting West Chester. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. |
