Brubaker's Field Goal Lifts Warriors To Upset of Bloomsburg

Game Stats, Play by Play

BLOOMSBURG—Mark Brubaker's 38-yard field goal with 50 seconds left to play lifted East Stroudsburg to a 16-13 win over Bloomsburg University Saturday afternoon. The win snapped the Huskies 16-game home winning streak dating back to 1999 and its 15-game PSAC Eastern Division winning streak, also dating back to 1999.

Brubaker's kick capped a drive for the Warriors (4-1, 2-0 PSAC East) that started at their own 41-yard line. East Stroudsburg took over there on downs after the Huskies' (3-2, 0-1 PSAC East) Julius Brown slipped and fell on a fourth and one-play which would have kept a drive alive. ESU quarterback Jeremy Palm then directed the Warriors to the Huskies' 21-yard line to set up the game winning field goal. Two big plays in the drive were a Palm pass to Anthony Carfagno for 14 yards and a Palm 14-yard scramble to the Huskies' 28-yard line.

East Stroudsburg jumped on the board first when Carfagno scored on a one-yard plunge. The touchdown came after the Warriors took a field goal off the board after Bloomsburg was called for roughing the kicker giving East Stroudsburg a first down at the Huskies' two-yard line. The extra point, however, was wide making it 6-0 East Stroudsburg.

The Huskies took the lead late in the first half when Julius Brown scored from two-yards out to cap an 88-yard drive. Quarterback Andrew Herrmann was 3-3 on the drive for 62 yards, including a 24-yard pass to Forgione down to the two-yard line. The point after was good and Bloomsburg led 7-6 at the break.

Bloomsburg then increased the lead to 13-6 on its first drive of the third quarter. Starting at their own 38-yard line, the Huskies moved 62-yards in just four plays with Herrmann hitting Forgione with a 17-yard touchdown pass. The extra point though was blocked making it 13-6.

The Warriors tied the score later in the third period taking advantage of a Michael Glover pass interception that was returned to the Huskies' 12-yard line. Four plays later A.J. Oliveri scored from one-yard out and with the extra point tied the score at 13-13 with 5:51 to play in the third.

Palm finished 15 of 33 for 209 yards and three interceptions for the Warriors, while Herrmann was 11 of 23 for 179 yards and four interceptions and one touchdown.

Defensively, Ryan Vermillion led the Warriors with 10 tackles, while Matt Keys had 12 tackles for Bloomsburg.
