Herrmann Throws Three Touchdown Passes in Bloomsburg Win

BLOOMSBURG—Quarterback Andrew Herrmann (Brookside, NJ/Mendham) threw for 280 yards and three touchdowns to lead Bloomsburg University to a 47-23 win over Lock Haven University in the home opener for the Huskies.

Herrmann, a red-shirt senior, had touchdown throws of 35, 8 and 21 yards for the best performance of his career at Bloomsburg. He finished the day 17-25 and one interception with wide receiver Rocco Forgione (Peckville/Valley View) getting careers in highs in catches with nine, two of them for scores, and yards receiving with 153.

For the day the Huskies (2-1) gained 529 yards in total offense, while limiting the Bald Eagles (1-2) to just 201.

The Huskies got on the board on their first series of the day. After forcing Lock Haven to three and out on the opening drive of the game, Herrmann directed a nine-play, 61-yard scoring drive which he capped off with a one-yard run with 9:02 to play in the first.

Later in the first, Herrmann connected with Tierell Johnson (Harrisburg/CD East) on a 35-yard scoring strike to make it 14-0 Huskies with 6:40 to play in the period.

After a 25-yard field goal from Lock Haven's Greg Knauss cut the deficit to 14-3, the Huskies moved 83-yards in 11 plays with Julius Brown (New Holland/Garden Spot) going in from one-yard out to make it a 21-3 game. The Bald Eagles cut into the score on their next possession with Rob Carey catching a 48-yard scoring pass from Tim Storino to bring Lock Haven within 21-10 with 5:40 left in the second period.

Then with just under two minutes to play before halftime Herrmann and Forgione connected for an eight-yard touchdown to send the Huskies to the locker room with a 28-10 lead.

In the third period the Huskies used over five minutes of playing time to march 80 yards with Brown scoring his second one-yard touchdown of the afternoon making it 35-10 after the extra point.

The fourth period saw two Bloomsburg scores sandwiched around two Lock Haven scores. The Bald Eagles scored early in the first on a two-yard pass from Rob Kristiniak to Ryan Lightner to make it 35-17, before Forgione caught a 21-yard pass from Herrmann with 11:30 remaining to give the Huskies a 41-17 lead after the missed extra point. Shaun Gaul (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) scored the Huskies final touchdown on a two-yard with 5:17 to play. Lock Haven's final score came on a 15-yard pass to Adam Angelici from Kristiniak.

Defensively, the Huskies were led by Shawn Butler (Newton/Council Rock) who finished with seven tackles, three of them solo, while Brett Fryer (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) and Dave Armstrong (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) each had six tackles.

Bloomsburg will host Slippery Rock in a PSAC divisional crossover game next Saturday at 1 p.m.
