Bloomsburg Finishes Regular Season with Win over Mansfield

Game Stats, Play by Play

BLOOMSBURG—Rocco Forgione (Peckville/Valley View) caught seven passes for 117 yards and one touchdown to lead Bloomsburg to a 17-6 win over Mansfield University Saturday afternoon. The win clinches a share of the PSAC East title for the Huskies, who along with East Stroudsburg, both finish division play with 5-1 records. It is the third straight PSAC East title for the Huskies.

The Huskies got the board first with a 15-play, 76-yard drive that was capped by a 21-yard field goal from Tim Oliver (Mountaintop/Crestwood) with 14:45 to play in the second period. The drive came after the Bloomsburg defense held on a long Mansfield drive and the Mounties missed a 37-yard field goal attempt.

Bloomsburg went up 10-0 when Forgione, who moved into a tie for eighth place all-time in receptions at Bloomsburg with 100, caught a 45-yard pass from Andrew Herrmann (Brookside, NJ/Mendham). The pass capped a 71-yard drive for the Huskies.

The Huskies went up 17-0 in the third period on a 22-yard run by Mike Ceroli (Medford, NJ/Lenape) to cap a 14-play, 86-yard drive.

Mansfield broke into the scoring column with eight minutes to play when Mike Zulkowski caught an 18-yard pass from Travis Motley. However, the extra point failed and leaving the Huskies with a 17-6 lead.

The Bloomsburg defense was solid all game led by 15 tackles Shawn Butler (Newtown/Council Rock) and seven from Eric Steffen (Catawissa/Southern Columbia). The win was sealed late in the game when Zach Miers (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg) recovered a bad snap to the Mansfield quarterback. In all, the Huskies held the Mounties to just 218 yards in offense for the day, just 22 yards on the ground.

Bloomsburg, 8-2, will need a few things to happen if it is to reach the NCAA playoffs for a third straight year. The bids to the NCAA championships will be announced on Nov. 17th.
