Bloomsburg Downs West Chester to Grab Share of First PlaceBLOOMSBURG—Quarterback Andrew Herrmann (Brookside, NJ/Mendham) threw for a 236 yards and one touchdown to lead Bloomsburg University to a 23-10 win over West Chester University Saturday afternoon. The win gives the Huskies a share of first place, with West Chester and East Stroudsburg, in the PSAC Eastern Division with one game to play. Herrmann threw one touchdown pass in the game, a 19-yard strike to Rocoo Forgione (Peckville/Valley View) and did not have any interceptions as the Huskies built a 23-3 lead in the third period. Bloomsburg (7-2, 4-1 PSAC East) scored first in the game on a 28-yard field goal by Tim Oliver (Mountaintop/Crestwood). The points were set up after the Huskies recovered a West Chester (4-5, 3-1 PSAC) fumble at the Golden Rams' 36-yard line. After forcing a West Chester punt on the ensuing drive, the Huskies needed just three plays to go 68-yards with Jamison McLaughlin (Petersburg, VA/Petersburg) scoring from one-yard out. The big play in the drive was a 67-yard reception down to the one-yard line by Forgione. In the third period Forgione made it a 17-0 game when he caught a 19-yard pass from Herrmann. It was the 11th touchdown reception of the year for Forgione.. West Chester trimmed the deficit to 17-3 with a 42-yard field goal from Dan Wilbourne. The Huskies extended their lead to 23-3 late in the third period when McLaughlin scored his second touchdown of the game, this one on a six-yard run, to cap an 11-play, 87-yard drive. The Golden Rams got the game's final score on a nine-yard pass to Corey DeForrest from Bob Fidora with 2:55 left in the third period. The touchdown was set-up by a 22-yard punt return by Chad Weaver to the Huskies' 27-yard line. Herrmann finished the day17 of 22 and now has 1, 881 yards passing for his career, moving him into eighth place all-time at Bloomsburg. The Bloomsburg defense played well holding the Golden Rams, averaging 409 yards per game, to just 248 total yards. Linebacker Eric Steffen (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) led the team with 14 tackles, including nine solo stops. He also had one interception and one sack on the afternoon. Bloomsburg wraps up its season next week at Mansfield. West Chester plays at Millersville. |
