Bloomsburg Rallies For OT Win against Kutztown

Game Stats, Play by Play

BLOOMSBURG—Tailback Mike Ceroli's 11-yard scoring run in overtime was the difference as Bloomsburg University rallied for a 35-28 win over Kutztown Saturday in front of a large homecoming crowd.

The Huskies (5-2, 3-0 PSAC East) sent the game into overtime when Tim Oliver kicked a 36-yard field goal with 2:30 left to play in regulation. Bloomsburg later had a chance to go for the win after forcing the Golden Bears (4-3, 1-2 PSAC East) to go three and out on their ensuing possession. However, with the Huskies driving for the go-ahead score, quarterback Jack Lydic was intercepted by Andre Davis at the Golden Bears' three-yard line with just 50 seconds left.

In the extra period, Kutztown won the toss and elected to go on defense. On the first play in overtime, Lydic hit Luke Kuklick for 14 yards down to the Kutztown 11. On the next play, Ceroli broke left and dashed into the endzone for the score. Oliver's point after was good giving the Huskies the lead.

Kutztown was unable to move the ball in overtime and quarterback Jeremy Copeland's pass to the endzone on fourth down was broken up setting off a Bloomsburg celebration.

Kutztown jumped out to the early lead in the game. Stephen Gammage scored from one yard out in the first period to cap an 11-play, 76-yard drive, then later added a 34-yard field goal from Matt Scartozzi in the second period to lead 10-0. Then with 3:44 left before halftime, Copeland hit Jason Henley with a five-yard scoring pass to make it 17-0.

Bloomsburg started its comeback by taking the second half kickoff and going 47-yards in nine plays with Ceroli capping the drive with a two-yard run to make it 17-6 after the missed extra point. Bloomsburg made it 17-12 later in the third when Steve Burke caught a 20-yard pass from Lydic to cap a 99-yard drive.

Early in the fourth period the Huskies took their first lead of the game when Lydic hit Donny Patrick from five yards out for the score to make 18-17 after the missed two-point conversion.

The Golden Bears regained the lead when Scartozzi hit a 38-yard field goal with 10:47 left to play.
