Bloomsburg Routs Millersville in Football

BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg's Josh Heck (Hazleton/Hazleton) rushed for 127 yards and one score and the Huskies' defense intercepted Millersville four times, returning two for touchdowns, in a 50-7 win over the Marauders Saturday afternoon.

Following a missed field goal by the Marauders (3-3, 0-2 PSAC East) in the first period, the Huskies (4-2, 2-0 PSAC East) drove 80 yards in seven plays for their first score. Bloomsburg quarterback Jack Lydic (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) connected with Steve Burke (Mechanicsburg/Bishop McDevitt) on a 33-yard scoring pass with 2:46 to play in the first period to make it a 7-0 gave.

The Huskies made it 13-0 early in the second period when Mike Ceroli (Medford, NJ/Lenape) scored on a 10-yard run to cap 52-yard drive.

Bloomsburg closed out the half with Heck scoring from 15 yards out with 7:25 to play and Garrett Bloom hitting a 29-yard field goal with 4:17 to play giving the Huskies a 23-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, Bloomsburg added to its lead after recovering a Millersville fumble at the Marauder 15-yard line. Two plays later, Ceroli scored his second touchdown of the game to make it 30-0 in favor of the Huskies.

Later in the third, the Huskies sandwiched a one-yard run from Shaun Gaul (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) around two interception returns for touchdowns. The first was a 51-yard return by Joe Scritchfield (Damascus, MD/Damascus) and the second was a 40-yard return by Gabe Robinson (Albrightsville/Jim Thorpe) to make it 50-0 with 14:53 left in the game.

Millersville kept is streak alive of not having been shutout since 1991 (121 games) when the Marauders scored with 32 seconds left on a 12-yard pass from Dan Csencsitz to Andy Neupauper .

Along with Heck's 127 yards rushing, Ceroli finished with 91 and two touchdowns, while Lydic was 8-15 for 136 yards and one score.

Bloomsburg's defense, along with four interceptions, sacked Csencsitz four times and also recovered two fumbles. BeJey Thomas (Bloomsburg), Paul Linn (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) and Eric Steffen (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) each had eight tackles.

Millersville was led by Csencsitz who was 24-37 for 232 yards and one score.

Bloomsburg will host Kutztown next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in its annual homecoming game.
