Football ranked 15th in AFCA PollBLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University football team is ranked 15th in the country this week in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II poll. The Huskies moved up from 18th in the season opening poll, after a 30-17 win over New Haven University last weekend. In his first career start, quarterback Al West (Berwick/Berwick Area) led the Huskies going 9-16, including three touchdowns, finishing the game with 169 yards. Donny Patrick (Hazleton/Hazleton), one of West's favorite targets during the game, caught four passes for 77 yards. Leading the team in rushing was Shawn Gaul (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) who rushed for 120 yards on 17 carries, and also scored a touchdown. Defensively, Shawn Butler (Newton/Council Rock) had eight solo tackles, while Eric Steffen (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) and Paul Linn (Harrisburg/C.D. East) each added eight tackles, with five solo stops each. Bloomsburg will be idle this weekend and will play Shippensburg at home, Sept. 13 at 1:00 p.m.
