Bloomsburg Football Rallies for 19-16 Win at Slippery RockSLIPPERY ROCK—Mike Ceroli's 1-yard run with 3:26 left helped Bloomsburg University rally for a 19-16 win over Slippery Rock University Saturday night. The win snapped the Huskies' two-game losing streak. The winning drive was setup when Bloomsburg's Ben Cohick recovered a bad-snap at the Rock's eight-yard line setting the Huskies with great field position. Slippery Rock took the early lead in the game when Josh Kneiss scored from four yards out to cap a 17-play, 80-yard scoring drive giving the home team a 7-0 lead with 3:12 left in the first period. The Rock converted four, third down plays on the drive. Bloomsburg tied the score in the second period with an even longer drive. The Huskies started at their own six-yard line and moved 94 yards in 12 plays with quarterback Jack Lydic, making his first collegiate start, hitting Donny Patrick with 12-yard scoring pass to tie the game at 7-7 with 9:06 left in the second. The Huskies took the lead later in the period with the help of their special teams. Brett Fryer blocked a punt which the Huskies recovered at the Rock 23-yard line. Several plays later Lydic threw his second touchdown pass of the game, this one to Steve Burke, covering 30-yards with just 47 seconds left before halftime. The extra point, though, was blocked and Bloomsburg led 13-7 at halftime. In the third period, the Rock took the second half opening kickoff and marched 62 yards for a score. Rock quarterback Luke McCaffrey hit Valdez Hails with a five-yard scoring pass to cap the seven-play drive. However, the extra point was not good and the teams were tied at 13-13. Later in the third period, the Huskies missed a chance to go-ahead after an interception put them deep in Rock territory. However, the drive stalled and a 42-yard attempt by Garrett Bloom was no good leaving the score tied at 13-13. In the fourth period, the Rock took the lead at 16-13 on a 37-yard field goal by John Katsaouni with 11:10 left in the game. After several drives stalled for the Huskies, the Rock held the ball deep in its own territory with just over four minutes to play. Facing a third and 10, Slippery Rock moved into the shotgun. The snap, though, was low and Bloomsburg recovered at the eight yard line setting up the heroics by Ceroli. Lydic finished 9-19 with one interception for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Patrick led Bloomsburg receivers with three catches for 51 yards and one score. Ceroli finished with 46 yards rushing on 19 carries to lead the ground game. Defensively, the Huskies got 10 tackles each from Eric Steffen and Paul Linn, while Chris Kelly added eight tackles. Bloomsburg, 2-2, will visit East Stroudsburg next week starting at 1 p.m.
