WEST CHESTER —Quarterback Bob Fidora passed for 308 yards and three touchdowns to lead West Chester University to a 35-34 win over Bloomsburg University Saturday night.
The Huskies (6-3, 4-1 PSAC East) had a chance to tie the game with 46 seconds left, however, kicker Tim Oliver's extra point was no good following a Jack Lydic to Steve Burke three-yard touchdown pass. Later in the period, the Huskies took over deep in West Chester territory and Lydic hit Donny Patrick with a 25-yard touchdown pass to put Bloomsburg up 14-7 after one period.
West Chester took the lead with back-to-back touchdowns in the second period. The first score came on a two-yard pass from Fidora to Corey DeForrest with the second score coming on a 49-yard run by Bloomsburg native Osagie Osunde.
Lydic, though, led the Huskies on a five-play, 51-yard drive and hit Burke with a five yard touchdown pass with just 35 seconds left before halftime to tie the game at 21-all.
The Huskies grabbed their second lead of the game in the third period when tailback Mike Ceroli scored from four yards out to cap a 10-play, 58-yard drive. Oliver's extra point put the Huskies up 28-21.
The Golden Rams though came back with two more back-to-back scores to grab a 35-28 lead. West Chester's first score was a 17-yard run by Eckmeyer with 7:53 to play in the third period. The go-ahead score came when Fidora connected Brandon Simmons for a 25-yard touchdown with 5:09 to play setting up the final minute near comeback for Bloomsburg.
For Bloomsburg, Lydic was 13-22 for 136 yards and a career-high four touchdown passes. Ceroli rushed for 128 yards and one score, while defensively Eric Steffen had 12 tackles with Tony Milone and Joe Scritchfield getting six each.
