Bloomsburg Routs Cheyney in Football

BLOOMSBURG—Tailback Mike Ceroli (Medford, NJ/Lenape) rushed for a career-high 224 yards and scored four touchdowns and his backup Jamar Brittingham (Levittown/Neshaminy) gained 132 yards and scored three times to lead Bloomsburg University to a 69-0 win over Cheyney on Saturday.

The Huskies (5-2, 2-1 in the PSAC East) dominated play on both sides of the ball outgaining the Wolves (1-7, 0-4 PSAC East) 591 to 55, while scoring on their first 10 possessions of the game. The Huskies only two times not to score came in the fourth period when they punted and turned the ball over on downs.

Bloomsburg opened the scoring on its first drive of the game with Ceroli going in from eight yards out for a 7-0 lead after Garrett Bloom's (Sunbury/Shikellamy) extra point.

Brittingham then scored the next three times on runs of 46, five and four yards as Bloomsburg opened a 28-0 lead after one period.

In the second period, Tyson Hale (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) capped an 89-yard drive with a 15-yard scoring run before Ceroli scored on back to back drives with runs of 23 and two yards to give the Huskies a 48-0 lead at the break.

Ceroli's last carry of the game on the opening drive of the third period was a 48-yard run to paydirt for a 55-0 Bloomsburg lead.

The Huskies final two scores came on a 33-yard run by Pat Kaiser (Philadelphia/St. Joe's Prep) and a 22-yard run by Shawn Williams (Philadelphia/Frankford).

Garrett Bloom's nine extra points in the game set a new Bloomsburg single-game record. The old mark of eight was done twice, back in 1972 and 1995.

Bloomsburg will play at home with Mansfield next week at 1 p.m., while Cheyney hosts California (PA) also at 1 p.m.
