Bloomsburg Downs Kutztown in Football

KUTZTOWN — Tailback Jamar Brittingham (Levittown/Neshaminy) rushed for a game-high 142 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Bloomsburg University Huskies to a 37-12 win over Kutztown University Saturday afternoon.
In all, the Huskies had three players rush for more than 100 yards in the game as it piled up 481 yards of total offense to 223 for Kutztown.
The Huskies got on the board in the opening frame eating up nearly half of the first quarter in a 16-play, 69-yard drive capped off by quarterback Jack Lydic (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) hitting Steve Burke (Mechanicsburg/Bishop McDevitt) with a five-yard scoring pass with 8:25 to play in the quarter. The extra point, though, was no good leaving the Huskies with a 6-0 lead.
Bloomsburg added to its lead later in the period when senior tailback Julius Brown (Lancaster/Garden Spot) ran 32-yards for a score for a 13-0 Huskies' lead with 3:43 to go in the quarter.
Brittingham then scored his first touchdown of the game on a two-yard run to cap a 10-play, 66-yard drive giving the Huskies a 20-0 with 12:37 to go in the second period. Special teams played a role in the Huskies' next score when freshman Phil Riccardi (Lansdale/North Penn) blocked a punt giving Bloomsburg the ball at the Kutztown four-yard line. Two plays later Brittingham scored again for a 27-0 Bloomsburg lead.
The Huskies capped off their first half scoring with a 27-yard field goal from Garrett Bloom for a 30-0 lead.
Kutztown did threaten late in first half, but Keith Davis (Woodlyn/Strath Haven) intercepted a pass in the endzone to end the threat.
In the second half, Kutztown finally broke through with a one-yard scoring from run Jeremy Copeland, then added a fourth period pass from Copeland to Mike Zulkowski to make it 30-12. The Huskies closed out the scoring with a 36-yard scoring run from Brittingham with 10:08 left in the game.
Brittingham carried 22 times in all for a career-high 142 yards. Senior Mike Ceroli (Medford, NJ/Lenape) added 109 yards on a 22 carries with Brown finishing with 101 on just eight carries.
Defensively, senior Paul Linn (Newtown/Council Rock) led the Huskies with 10 tackles, while Zac Barton (Berryville, VA/Loudan Valley) added six tackles.
Bloomsburg goes to 4-2, 1-1 in the PSAC East with the win, while Kutztown falls to 3-3, 1-2 in the PSAC East. The Huskies host Cheyney on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in their annual homecoming game.
