Bloomsburg Routs Mansfield In Football

BLOOMSBURG—Tailback Mike Ceroli (Lenape, NJ/Medford, NJ) rushed for 214 yards and two touchdowns as Bloomsburg University (6-2, 3-1 PSAC East) defeated Mansfield University (1-7, 1-3 PSAC East) 49-7 Saturday.

The Huskies got on the board first when Jamar Brittingham (Levittown/Neshaminy) scored the first of his two touchdowns on a six-yard run to cap a four-play, 52-yard drive with 5:27 left to play in the first quarter. The score was set up by a 33-yard run from Ceroli down to the Mansfield one-yard line.

Brittingham scored again late in the first quarter when he went in from one-yard out for a 14-0 lead with 43 seconds left in the opening period.

Ceroli scored the first of his two touchdowns early in the second period when he went over from two-yards out with 14:04 left in the half. The 39-yard drive was set up a fumble recovery on the kickoff following Brittingham's second touchdown.

In the third period Ceroli scored his second touchdown on the second play of the second half on 56-yard run which gave Bloomsburg a 28-0 lead. The run also pushed Ceroli over the 1,000 yard mark for the second straight season.

Mansfield broke into the scoring column when Poohbear McNeal scored on a two-yard run with 9:13 to play in the third period. The points broke a streak of 104 unanswered points by Bloomsburg over a three-game stretch.

The Huskies tacked on another score midway through the third period when Steve Burke (Mechanicsburg/Bishop McDevitt) caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Jack Lydic (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) to make it 35-7.

In the fourth period, Bloomsburg's Tyson Hale (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) scored on a three-yard run, while Pat Kaiser (Philadelphia/St. Joe Prep) added an eight-yard scoring run for a 49-7 final.

While Ceroli topped 200-yards rushing for the second straight game, Brittingham gained 116 yards on 18 carries to go along with his two scores for the Huskies..

Poohbear McNeal led the Mounties with 135 yards and one score, while defensively, Joe Frick had a game-high 17 tackles.

Bloomsburg will be back in action next Saturday in a key PSAC-East showdown at West Chester starting at 7 p.m.
