Game stats

MILLERSVILLE —Freshman Jamar Brittingham rushed for a career-high 204 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown to lead Bloomsburg University to a 23-20 win over Millersville University in the season finale for both teams.

With his 204 yards, Brittingham also set a Bloomsburg freshman record for most yards rushing in a season with 991.

The Huskies jumped out to a 6-0 lead at the end of one period on the strength of two Garrett Bloom field goals. The junior connected on kicks of 23 and 26 yards.

Bloomsburg made it 9-0 early in the second period when Bloom hit his third field goal of the game from 32-yards out. The Huskies wasted a golden opportunity to take an even bigger lead after recovering a fumble by Millersville following a Bloomsburg punt. However, three plays from the Maruaders' 16-yard line netted just one yard forcing the Huskies to settle for three points.

Millersville got on the board on its next possession when Sean Hughes hit a 21-yard field goal to make it a 9-3 game with 5:45 left in the first half.

Bloomsburg went up 16-3 when quarterback Jack Lydic connected on a five-yard scoring pass to Steve Burke with 1:53 to play in the half.

Millersville got a field goal right at the end of the first half from Hughes, this one from 37-yards out, after the Marauders drove from their own 32 to the Huskies' yard line.

The Marauders came out on fire in the third period and scored two touchdowns, one a three-yard run by Juan Jones and the other a 22-yard pass from Randall Eggleston to go up 20-16 heading into the fourth period.

In the fourth period, the Huskies took over at their own 20-yard line with 9:12 to play. Brittingham started the drive with a one-yard run before Lydic hit Burke with a 12-yard pass to the Bloomsburg 33-yard line. Brittingham then picked up 24-yards down to the Millersville 43-yard line. On the next play, he broke off a 43-yard run for a touchdown putting Bloomsburg in front.

Millersville had one last chance with 2:08 to play taking over at its own 20-yard line. After moving out to the 32-uard line, Bloomsburg's Tony Milone sacked the Marauders' Dan Csencsitz for a nine yard loss on second down. After a short completion, Bloomsburg's Paul Linn intercepted Csencsitz ending the threat.

Brittingham broke the Bloomsburg freshman single season rushing mark of 894 yards set by Arrastene Henry in 1998. Defensively, Chris Kelly and Lin both finished with eight tackles for the afternoon.

Bloomsburg ends its season at 7-3, 4-2 in the PSAC East, while Millersville ends 5-5, 3-3 in the PSAC East.
