Bloomsburg Downs Cheyney in Football; Runs Record to 8-0

CHEYNEY — Tailback Jamar Brittingham (Levittown/Neshaminy) rushed for a game-high 191 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Bloomsburg University Huskies to a 48-14 win over Cheyney University on Saturday afternoon.
In all, the Huskies had two players rush for more than 100 yards in the game as they piled up 549 yards of total offense to 169 for Cheyney.
The Huskies scored early and often with runs of eight yards and three yards by Brittingham in the first quarter to give Bloomsburg a 14-0 lead. Later in the first, freshman Ryan Schuck (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) scored on a 66-yard punt return increasing the lead to 21-0.
Cheyney got on the board in the second quarter on a three-yard pass from Derrick Murry to Billy Mitchell to make the score 21-7. Bloomsburg answered back with a 15-yard run by Brittingham giving the Huskies a 28-7 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Brittingham scored his fourth touchdown of the game on a two-yard run.
Backup tailback Josh Heck (West Hazleton/Hazleton) got in on the action early in the fourth quarter when he scored on a two-yard run capping a 14-play, 68 yard drive that ate up over seven minutes. Cheyney added a score on a 16-yard pass from Lamar Hyson to Dominique Curry to make the score 41-14.
The Huskies answered back with a five yard run by Colt Givler (Glenmore/Dowingtown West) making the final score 48-14 in favor of Bloomsburg.
Brittingham, first in the nation in rushing and second in scoring, carried 25 times for 191 yards and four touchdowns. Heck added one touchdown on 22 carries for 132 yards on the day.
Defensively, Keith Davis (Woodlyn/Strath Haven) and Justin Colon (Reading/Holy Name) each had four tackles. Jordan Golob (Enhaut/Central Dauphin East), Zac Barton (Berryville, VA/Loudan Valley) and Colon added a sack a piece.
Bloomsburg remains undefeated on the season going 8-0 for the first time since 1985. The Huskies are 3-0 in the PSAC East. Cheyney falls to 2-6, 0-4 in the PSAC East.
Bloomsburg travels to Manfield for a 1:00 p.m. start next Saturday.
