GAME STATS
FAIRMONT, WV —Tailback Jamar Brittingham (Levittown/Neshaminy) scored three touchdowns and the Bloomsburg University defense allowed 149 yards of total offense as the Huskies posted a 33-0 win over Fairmont State (WV) on Saturday.
Bloomsburg improves to 2-0, while Fairmont falls to 0-2.
The Huskies took a 6-0 lead in the first period when Brittingham scored from two yards out after setting up the scoring drive with a 35-yard punt return.
In the second period Bloomsburg extended its lead when quarterback Jack Lydic (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove) connected with Greg Masters (Sayre/Athens) on a four-yard scoring pass. On the extra point attempt, with the Huskies lined up to kick, Joey Kleiner (Altoona/Altoona) took the snap and tossed a two-point conversion pass to Brad Bowman (Lebanon/Cedar Crest) for a 14-0 lead.
The Bloomsburg defense set up Bloomsburg's third score of the day when sophomore Keith Davis (Woodlyn/Strath Haven) made the first of his two interceptions. A couple of plays later red-shirt sophomore Josh Heck (Hazleton/Hazleton) ran 16 yards for a score to make it a 20-0 lead after a missed extra point.
On the opening drive of the second half the Huskies moved 80-yards in 12 plays with Brittingham scoring from two- yards out for a 26-0 lead. A big play in the drive was a 51-yard pass completion from Lydic to freshman Ryan Schuck (Selinsgrove/Selinsgrove). The Huskies' final score of the day came on a two-yard from Brittingham as the sophomore finished with 80 yards on the ground snapping a six-game streak, dating back to last year, of having at least 100-yards rushing.
Fairmont's best chance to score came early in the fourth period. After a bad snap on a Bloomsburg punt gave the Fighting Falcons the ball at the Huskies four-yard line, Fairmont could manage just one yard in four plays and turned the ball over on downs.
Brittingham finished with 80 yards rushing on 23 carries, while Heck added 76 yards on 12 carries. Lydic ended the day with 18 of 30 for 215 yards and one touchdown.
The Bloomsburg defense limited the Fighting Falcons to just 149 yards of total offense, just 57 through the air. Rob Biernat (Bristol/Conwell Egan) made six tackles to lead the way, while Greg Myers (Philadelphia/Dobbins) added four tackles.
