Bloomsburg Survives Rain; Downs Kutztown 12-0

GAME STATS

BLOOMSBURG—Tailback Jamar Brittingham (Levittown/Neshaminy) rushed for 192 yards and one touchdown to lead Bloomsburg University to a 12-0 win over Kutztown University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup Saturday afternoon in a game played in a steady downpour.

The shutout was the fourth of the year for Bloomsburg and marks the first time since the 1948 season that the team has posted as many as four shutouts in a year.

The Golden Bears (1-5, 1-2 PSAC East) had the first scoring chance in the game driving from their own 27-yard line down to the Bloomsburg (7-0, 2-0 PSAC East) three-yard line. However, three pass plays into the endzone were incomplete and on fourth down the Huskies' Keith Davis (Woodlyn/Strath Haven) intercepted giving Bloomsburg the ball at their own 20.

On the ensuing drive, Brittingham carried three times, including a 40-yard pickup, then scored from two yards out for a 6-0 lead after the missed extra point.

The teams traded punts for much of the remainder of the first half, although Kutztown did recover a fumble by the Huskies at the Bloomsburg 39-yard line. After driving to the 23-yard line, the Golden Bears turned the ball over on downs.

Bloomsburg scored its final touchdown of the game when fullback Tony Ruth (Stewartstown/Kennard-Dale) scored from five yards out to make it 12-0. A key play in the 54-yard drive was a 34-yard screen pass to Donny Patrick (Shenandoah/Hazleton) that gained 34 yards down to the six. Ruth scored two plays later.

Kutztown did drive to the Bloomsburg 15-yard line on the ensuing drive, but turned the ball over on downs.

Brittingham, the nations' number two rusher and leading scorer, finished with 35 carries for 192 yards and one score. Defensively, Tyler Trettin (Hummelstown/Hershey) and Keith Davis each had seven tackles.

Quarterback Kyle Spotts led the Golden Bears going 15-39 for 167 yards.

Bloomsburg will visit Cheyney next week at 1 p.m.
