Bloomsburg University Football Ranked Fifth in D2Football.com Poll

BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University football team has been ranked fifth in the country according to the D2Football.com pre-season rankings.

The Huskies, coming off an 11-1 season a year ago, are the highest ranked Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) team in the poll, ahead of 11th-ranked East Stroudsburg.

Bloomsburg is fifth in the poll behind NCAA Division II national champion Grand Valley in the top spot; Saginaw Valley at number two; Northwest Missouri State at number three and North Alabama at number four.

In addition to the national ranking for the team, Jamar Brittingham (Langhorne/Neshaminy), the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Year and Harlon Hill finalist, is listed as a pre-season All-American by D2Football.com. Brittingham is coming off a spectacular season in which he rushed for 2, 260 yards and 32 touchdowns. He also added 20 catches for 299 yards and two scores giving him 34 touchdowns for the season. His rushing total of 188.3 yards per game and scoring average of 17 points per game led all divisions of NCAA college football. He also set school and conference records for rushing yards in a season, touchdowns in a season, most points in a season and most points per game in a season.

The Huskies open the 2006 season with a game at NCAA Division I-AA James Madison University on Saturday, Sept. 2nd at 6 p.m. Bloomsburg will open its 2006 home season on Sept. 9th against California (PA) at 1 p.m. at Redman Stadium. The game will be a matchup of the teams picked number one in their respective divisions of the PSAC by the league's coaches.
