Bloomsburg Football Ranked by Street and Smith

BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University football team is ranked ninth in the country in Division II by Street and Smith Magazine in its pre-season issue. In addition, tailback Jamar Brittingham is listed as a pre-season All-American by the magazine on newsstands now.

The Huskies, coming off an 11-1 season, return 13 starters and nearly 60 letterwinners to its lineup in 2006. Among the key returning players for Bloomsburg are junior Jamar Brittingham (Levittown/Neshaminy), along with senior defensive standouts Zac Barton (Berryville, VA/Loudan Valley), Tyler Trettin (Hershey/Hershey) and Scott Keating (Lansdale/Lansdale Catholic).

Brittingham, who led all three divisions of college football last year in both rushing yards per game and points per game, is listed by the magazine as a pre-season All-American. "Jamarvelous" rushed for 2,260 yards and scored 34 touchdowns last year and finished third in the balloting for the Harlon Hill Award as the nation's top Division II football player.

Barton, Trettin and Keating are the Huskies' tri-captains for the 2006 season. Trettin made 62 tackles last year and had four interceptions, while Keating made 44 tackles, while Barton made 19 tackles, including a team-high five sacks.

In addition to being ranked ninth and having a pre-season All-American, the Huskies home opener with California (PA) on Sept. 9th is listed as one of the top games to watch this season. Bloomsburg opens the season on Sept. 2nd with a matchup against Division I-AA power James Madison at 6 p.m.
