Maroon Downs Gold in Spring Game

BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University football team concluded its spring drills with its annual Maroon and Gold Game on Saturday with the Maroon team winning 31-7 in front of a couple hundred fans at Redman Stadium.

In the first quarter the Maroon's Domenique Price (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) picked up a fumble from quarterback Matt Freeman (Holland/Council Rock South) and went 15 yards for the first score of the game. Later Jon Miller (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) capped a drive by running five yards for a score to make it a 14-0 game. In the second period, Millersville-transfer Brian Rankin capped a long scoring drive by running two yards for a score to make it 21-0 in favor of the Maroon.

The Gold team got on the board late in the first half when Brahin Bilal (Philadelphia/Lincoln) caught a 28-yard scoring pass from Freeman to make it 21-7 at the break. In the second half, Rankin threw an eight-yard scoring pass to Jordan Weisman (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) for a 28-7 Maroon advantage before Jon Koening (Pine Grove/Pine Grove) capped the day's scoring with a 32-yard field goal.

Bloomsburg's regular season opener will be at James Madison University on September 2nd at 6 p.m.
