Bloomsburg University Football Holds Spring Football Game


BLOOMSBURG-The Bloomsburg University football team held their annual spring "Maroon and Gold" game on Friday evening at Robert B. Redman Stadium. The game ended in a 3-3 tie, with kickers Jon Koenig (Pine Grove/Pine Grove) and Dennis Curran (Langhorne/Neshaminy) scoring the only points for the gold and maroon teams.

Fourth year starting quarterback Dan Latorre (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) led the gold team offense, completing 12 of 21 passes for 90 yards in the contest. Senior fullback Stefan Adams (West Chester/Henderson) led the way on the ground with six carries for 85 yards, including a 53-yard burst in the second half that set up the Koenig field goal. Sophomore tailback Derrick Price (Burlington City, NJ/Burlington City) finished with 16 carries for 59 yards as well.

For the maroon team, redshirt freshman Clarke Morris (Sunbury/Line Mountain) and sophomore Pat Carey (Loyalsock/Lafayette Univ.) split time at the quarterback position. Morris completed six of 10 passes for 79 yards, while Carey finished the day 2-4 for 51 yards passing. On the ground, freshman Kareem Steplight (Philadelphia/Frankford) had a big day, rushing for 70 yards on 12 carries and catching two passes for 30 yards.

Bloomsburg opens the 2009 season on Thursday, August 27th when they play host to Ashland (Oh.) University. Kick-off for the game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
