BU Football Ranked Seventh in Sporting News Poll
BLOOMSBURG-- The Bloomsburg University football team is ranked seventh in The Sporting News Division II Pre-Season Top 25 poll. Bloomsburg was also ranked seventh in Lindy's Football Annual pre-season poll.
The Huskies return 13 starters from last year's 11-2 squad which reached the Super Region One finals (national quarterfinals). Among those starters returning for coach Danny Hale is the entire starting backfield: quarterback Dan Latorre (Elysburg/Southern Columbia), fullback Stefan Adams (West Chester/Henderson) and tailback Derrick Price (Burlington, NJ/Burlington City).
Latorre threw for 1,617 yards and 19 touchdowns and just four interceptions, while also rushing for 545 yards and eight touchdowns. He was named first team All-PSAC East for his play.
Adams rushed for a career-high 326 yards and scored a team-high 13 touchdowns last year from his fullback spot. He earned second team All-PSAC East honors for his play.
Price was named the PSAC East Freshman of the Year and first team All-PSAC East after gaining 1,279 yards and scoring seven touchdowns last season. His best game of the year was a 182-yard effort against Mercyhurst.
The Huskies open the 2009 season at home on Thursday night Aug. 27 against 14th-ranked Ashland starting at 6 p.m. with gates opening at 4:30 p.m. It will be the first official night game at Redman Stadium. The following week the Huskies hit the road for a game with 13th-ranked California.
