CHEYNEY- Junior quarterback Eric Miller threw for 225 yards and tied a school-record with five touchdown passes to lead the Bloomsburg Huskies to a 48-6 win over the Cheyney Wolves.
A 32-yard touchdown pass from Miller to junior wide receiver Mike Leiko was called back due to an illegal procedure penalty on the Huskies' first drive and Bloomsburg was forced to punt. Cheyney punted right back though, and Bloomsburg got the ball on their own 45 yard line. Sophomore running back Marques Glaze, who finished with a career-high 145 yards on 23 carries,had consecutive 12-yard rushes before Miller hooked up with senior wide receiver Matt Wilson for a 21-yard scoring strike. Senior Tom Boop's extra point made it 7-0.
Two lost Bloomsburg fumbles kept Cheyney in the game until Wilson returned a Cheyney punt 9 yards to the Huskies' 49 yard line. On the very next play, Miller found Leiko for 51 yards and a touchdown.
Bloomsburg freshman defensive back Rudy Garcia intercepted a Chris Waiters pass on second down of the next drive and returned it to the Cheyney 32 yard line.Freshman running back Solomon Melson had four carries for 22 yards on the drive to set up Miller to Lelko for 14 yards and another Bloomsburg score.
Cheyney tried to keep their ensuing drive alive with a fake punt on fourth-and-one but the play was stopped for no gain and Bloomsburg got the ball back with 3:20 to go in the first half.
The Huskies drove to the Cheyney 7 yard line where, on first-and-goal, Miller was sacked for a 15-yard loss. On second down, Miller rebounded to find Lelko, who made a sparkling catch in the back of the end zone for his third touchdown of the quarter.Bloomsburg took the 28-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Cheyney went three and out on the first series of the second half and the Huskies got the ball back on their own 48 yard line.Glaze picked up 30 yards on three runs and a catch before Miller found Wilson for a 23-yard touchdown toss. Wilson finished with five catches for 66 yards and the two touchdowns. Lelko had five catches for 122 yards and his three scores.
Glaze found the end zone with a five-yard run late in the third quarter and Melson pounded in a score from a yard out with 8:14 left in the game.
Cheyney got on the board when quarterback Ameer Hayes took a bootleg run in from seven yards.
Bloomsburg, 4-4, 2-2 in the PSAC, travels to East Stroudsburg Saturday at 1 p.m.
