Bloomsburg Wins Over Mansfield, 53-21

BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University head coach Danny Hale became the winningest head coach in program history as the Huskies toppled the Mansfield Mountaineers 53-21. The win was Hale's 51st as Bloomsburg head coach, breaking A.K. Aldinger's 95-year old mark.

The Huskies racked up 329 yards rushing to pave the way to the victory. Sophomore running back Arrastene Henry had 138 yards on 17 carries and two touchdowns. Running backs Steve Eichert and Marques Glaze and quarterback Eric Miller also ran in scores for Bloomsburg.

Miller threw for 140 yards on 9-for-14 passing. He tossed touchdown strikes to Mike Lelko (five yards) and Matt Wilson (19 and 55 yards).

Lelko's touchdown catch got the Huskies on the board with10:33 to go in the first quarter. On the first play of Mansfield's ensuing drive, Tom Denison's pass was intercepted by Matt Baumgardner who returned to the Mansfield 1. Glaze took the ball in the end zone a play later.

Bloomsburg poured it on from there, outscoring Mansfield 40-7 over the second and third quarters.

A short Mansfield punt gave the Huskies the ball at the Mansfield 37. Eichert had 32 total yards on the drive before Miller took the ball in from the one.

On Bloomsburg's next drive, Henry did most of the damage, 49 yards on three carries, before Eichert scored from six yards out.

Mansfield put on a drive of their own, going 83 yards on 14 plays to get on the board when Denison snuck in from the one.

Eichert picked up 43 yards on three carries before Miller hit Wilson from the 19 to answer Mansfield's score and make the halftime score 32-7.

Bloomsburg was back at it after the break. Matt Wilson made a superb catch and broke a tackle for a 55-yard touchdown two plays into the new half.

Mansfield was held to three and out and the Huskies started again. Henry ran for 44 yards on six carries on the drive, capping it with a score from 14 yards out.

After Rudy Garcia blocked a Mansfield punt, Bloomsburg took over again at the Mounties 26. Henry ran twice, first for a yard and then a 25-yard score to put the finishing touches on Bloomsburg's scoring barrage.

Mansfield got scores from the offense, defense, and special teams: Denison's touchdown run in the second quarter; Tyree Patterson's fumble return 73 yards in the fourth, and Levi Green's blocked punt return 55 yards in the fourth quarter.

Dorian Thompson and Mike Bolinsky led the Bloomsburg defense with five tackles each. Karl Buzak was among Mansfield's leaders with eight tackles.

Bloomsburg (6-4, 4-2 PSAC) hosts Edinboro Nov. 13. Mansfield (1-8, 1-4 PSAC) returns home to face East Stroudsburg.
