BLOOMSBURG—Quarterback Mike Mitros threw for 276 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for one more to lead West Chester University to a 35-17 win over Bloomsburg University Saturday afternoon in PSAC football action.
The win improves West Chester to 3-3, 3-0 in the PSAC East, while the Huskies fall to 3-4, 1-2 in the PSAC.
Bloomsburg opened the game's scoring on a 30-yard field goal by Tom Boop with 3:52 left in the first period. The drive was setup by a Keith Freeman interception of a Mitros pass.
West Chester took the lead for good in the second period when Tom Truitt caught a 12-yard scoring pass, the first of two touchdown throws by Mitros. The pass capped a 10-play, 74-yard drive.
The Golden Rams increased the lead to 14-3 on a one-yard by Don DeFilipo with 9:15 left in the first half. In the drive, Mitros completed 26-yard passes to Bill Lowe and Kevin Ingram.
West Chester made it 21-3 with 1:22 left in the half on a 12-yard pass from Mitros to Ingram, one of nine catches for the senior wide receiver.
After a short kickoff gave Bloomsburg the ball on its own 46-yard line, quarterback Eric Miller hit Matt Wilson with a 42 yard scoring pass with 34 seconds left to make it 21-10 at the break.
The Huskies closed the gap to 21-17 on its first possession of the second half when Mike Lelko caught a 44-yard scoring pass from Miller.
West Chester increased the lead to 28-17 with 1:17 left in the third on a Mitros five yard run to cap a 12-play, 80-yard drive. The Golden Rams closed the scoring when Jason Muchler scored from two yards out to make the final 35-17.
Mitros finished the day 23 of 32 for 276 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions and rushed eight times for 54 yards. Ingram caught nine passes for 85 yards and one touchdown, while Truitt caught seven passes for 86 yards.
For the Huskies, Miller was 21-31 for 270 yards and two touchdowns. Lelko caught six passes for 100 yards and one score, while Wilson caught six for 98 yards.
West Chester hosts Millersville at 7 p.m. next week, while Bloomsburg will visit Cheyney at 1 p.m.
