Field Hockey All-Americans Announced

BLOOMSBURG—Four members of the Bloomsburg University field hockey team were named to the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II All-American squad for the 2001 season. Shanna Fritz (Benton/Benton) and Marlea Partlon (Langhorne/Neshaminy) were named to the first team, while Nikki Hartranft (Oley/Oley Valley) and Trish Leitzel (Richfield/Middleburg) were named second team All-Americans.

The four players helped the Huskies to a record of 14-3, 6-2 in the PSAC. Bloomsburg posted a record of 7-1 at home and ended the year on a season-long nine game-winning streak.

Fritz, a sophomore transfer from Ball State, came to Bloomsburg and dominated the competition in her first year of Division II action. Fritz finished the season with 19 goals, six assists and 44 points in 17 games played. Her goal and point totals led the team, while her six assists ranked her second on the squad.

Fritz's 19 goals ranked her sixth all-time at Bloomsburg for goals in a single season, while her 44 points also rank her sixth all-time for most points in a single season. Fritz, who played at the attack position, recorded three hat tricks and scored two goals in two other games.

Partlon, a senior back, had a solid final year, playing excellent defense in all 17 games she played in this season. She helped the defense hold opponents to just a 0.57 goals against average on the year.

For her career, Partlon scored six goals and four assists for a total 16 points.

Hartranft, a sophomore, was second on the team with 13 goals and 34 points, while leading the team with eight assists in 17 games played. Her eight assists are 10th on the all-time Bloomsburg single season assists list.

She recorded one hat trick and two, two goal games. She now has four, two goal games in her career. In her career, Hartranft now has 23 goals and 10 assists for a total of 56 points.

Leitzel, a junior goalie, played in all 17 games, recording a 0.63 goals against average and an .853 save percentage. She allowed just 10 goals and made 58 saves en route to 11 shutouts on the year. This is the third time in as many seasons that Leitzel has been a second team All-American.

In her career, Leitzel has made 159 saves and allowed only 32 goals in three seasons, while recording 29.5 shutouts. The shutouts tie Leitzel for second on the all-time Bloomsburg list in that category.
