BLOOMSBURG—Five members of the Bloomsburg University field hockey team were announced to the All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) squad for the 2001 season. Shanna Fritz (Benton/Benton), Nikki Hartranft (Oley/Oley Valley) and Sharla Partlon (Langhorne/Neshaminy) were named first team All-PSAC, while Tonya Aikey (Mifflinburg/Mifflinburg) and Marlea Partlon (Langhorne/Neshaminy) were named second team All-PSAC. Sharla Partlon was also named the PSAC Rookie of the Year.
The five players helped the Huskies to a record of 14-3, 6-2 in the PSAC. Bloomsburg posted a record of 7-1 at home and ended the year on a season-long nine game-winning streak.
Fritz, a sophomore transfer from Ball State, came to Bloomsburg and dominated the competition in her first year of Division II action. Fritz finished the season with 19 goals, six assists and 44 points in 17 games played. Her goal and point totals led the team, while her six assists ranked her second on the squad.
Fritz's 19 goals ranked her sixth all-time at Bloomsburg for goals in a single season, while her 44 points also rank her sixth all-time for most points in a single season. Fritz, who played at the attack position, recorded three hat tricks and scored two goals in two other games.
Hartranft, a sophomore, was second on the team with 13 goals and 34 points, while leading the team with eight assists in 17 games played. Her eight assists are 10th on the all-time Bloomsburg single season assists list.
She recorded one hat trick and two, two goal games. She now has four, two goal games in her career. In her career, Hartranft now has 23 goals and 10 assists for a total of 56 points.
Sharla Partlon, a freshman, claimed first team and Rookie of the Year honors after scoring three goals and three assists for a total of nine points. She also provided solid two-way play from her midfield position, providing the team with the solid defense that helped the Huskies allow only 10 goals throughout the season.
Midfielder Tonya Aikey, a junior, made second team All-PSAC after playing strong defense for the Huskies throughout the season. She also assisted on one goal, giving her two goals and two assists for a total of six points in her career.
Senior Marlea Partlon, a back, had a solid final year, playing excellent defense in all 17 games she played in this season. She helped the defense hold opponents to just a 0.57 goals against average on the year.
For her career, Partlon scored six goals and four assists for a total 16 points.
