Jan Hutchinson is entering her 24th season in charge of a program that has won nine national championships and 10 conference titles in the past 19 years. She also is the winningest college coach in any division with over 1,200 wins between field hockey and softball.

While at Bloomsburg, her field hockey squads have posted winning records in each of her 23 seasons and have amassed an overall record of 405-56-20, for a winning percentage of .862. She is the winningest coach in NCAA field hockey history.

Under Hutchinson, the Huskies have enjoyed several outstanding seasons and have won 16 or more games on 18 occasions. Her teams won national championships in 1981, 1983, 1984, 1987, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. Her string of four straight titles (1996-99) is the first time in the history of NCAA field hockey that feat has been accomplished.

Her teams have also registered eight national runner-up finishes. In addition, the Huskies captured Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships in 1983, 1984, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1997 and 1999, and have garnered seven runner-up showings.

Twice, 1991 and 1998, Hutchinson was chosen as the national “Coach of the Year.” During the 1993 season, Hutchinson's squad became the second team in the program's history to go undefeated, 21-0-1, in a season that featured the program's fifth national title and its eighth PSAC championship.

Four athletes on last season's team achieved All-American honors, bringing the total under Hutchinson to 36 performers who have combined to win 63 All-American awards. Six Bloomsburg players have been named national “Player of the Year”, Karen Hertzler in 1985, Gisela Smith-1990, 91; Denise Miller-1992, Shelley Miller-1993 and Daneen Fero in 1988. Michelle Martin in 1996 and Jess Kircher in 1999 also achieved the honor.

Hutchinson also serves as head coach for the Huskies' highly successful softball program which finished the 1995 season as the NCAA Division II runner-up for the second time in the program's history. Her team also placed second nationally in 1991, took third-place honors in 1990, 1992 and 1999 and fourth in 1993 and 2000. The Huskies also won the 1982 AIAW national championship.

Her softball teams have appeared in a national tournament in each of the last 22 years and have won 13 of the last 19 conference crowns. In addition, her players have enjoyed recognition in softball with 27 players earning 46 All-American awards.

A native of Newton, NJ, Hutchinson received her bachelor of science and master of education degrees from East Stroudsburg University. She was formerly a member of the faculty at Blair Academy where she initiated the women's physical education and interscholastic sports programs. She has also been inducted into the Newton High School and Sussex County (NJ) Halls of Fame. The Bloomsburg softball field is also named in her honor.
