Bloomsburg University Field Hockey Still in First

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University field hockey team stayed in the number one spot of the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II national poll. It's the third consecutive week in first place for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg, 12-0, 5-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), received 11 first place votes to rank them above PSAC rivals Lock Haven and Shippensburg.

The Huskies most recent win came off a 5-0 PSAC victory over Millersville University last Tuesday. In the game, sophomore Elyce Morring (York/Central York) and junior Nikki Hartranft (Oley/Oley Valley) each scored two goals, with Steph Beck (Orefield/Parkland) adding a goal and Shanna Fritz (Benton/Benton) chipping in with two assists. The Huskies have now won 21 straight games dating back to last season.

Leading the Huskies attack are Fritz with nine goals and eight assists and Hartranft with 11 goals and three assists. Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown) is third on the team in scoring and assists with eight and five, respectively. Goalie Trish Leitzel (Richfield/Middleburg), 12-0, has a goals against average of 0.50 and has recorded 39 saves for seven shutouts.
